Winter Care: Protect all planters from freezing and thawing. Cast stone, is slightly porous, which can allow small amounts of moisture to absorb into the surface of the planter. If this moisture freezes, it can cause small cracks or chips. If planted during winter raise off the ground with pressure treated wood strips so not to block drainage, this will allow soil to drain and the planter to not freeze to the ground. Blocked drainage may cause an expansion of the soil inside the planter which could result in damage. If planter is to remain unplanted during the winter, it may be left in freezing weather, provided it is dry, raised, and properly covered.

Placement: Always place planters on a solid level foundation. If the planter is to be placed on a softer surface like the ground and the weight of the planter is significant, two inches of packed stone or sand will provide your planter a solid foundation.
